Zakiya’s Writing Approach

My writing is driven by emotions and spiritual impulses, so the process of creating is a meditation for me.

In exploration for what spiritual healing looks like, my writing explores the hidden aspects of life. I must reflect on the unseen and the intuitive with writing serving as a medium. Intertwined with the “as above, so below” concept, I aim to find life’s meaning through the beautiful: paradise, gardens, nature, love, the arts, and so much more.

My Philosophy

Influenced by the infamous quote by Toni Morrison, “Write what you don’t know”, I expand on what she meant. Even writing an autobiography, she said, writers with this mentality can write from the perspective of the stranger.

For me, this stranger is what I call the observer, our spiritual eye. When we look at life through this lens, it forces us to ask questions. Those questions, I propose, are keys to the soul.
